Redlands Tops Caltech in First Meet of 2011


PASADENA, Calif. – In the third SCIAC swimming and diving meet of the season for Caltech, Redlands posted a win in both the men's and women's competition. Redlands won the men's meet with by a 175-63 margin while the women recorded a 198-42 win.

Caltech had their best individual event results during the diving portion of the competition. Justin Johnson won both the one- and three-meter diving events. The junior posted a winning score of 225.90 on the one-meter board while tallying a 213.75 mark in the three-meter event. Fellow Beaver diver Wade Hann-Caruthers finished second by one point in the three-meter event with a score of 184.20.

During the women's portion of the diving competition Erin Zampaglione posted a score of 139.50 to finished second in the one-meter event. Peggy Allen scored a 132.75 to finish third in one-meter in addition to scoring 148.55 points to finish second in the three-meter event.

In the swimming events, the Beavers' Peter Buhler claimed the top spot in the 100 backstroke with a time of 57.37.

The Beavers next home SCIAC meet is on Jan. 22 when they host Ponoma-Pitzer at 11:00 a.m. at the Braun swimming pool. The next conference competition is Saturday, January 15 at Occidental.
