PASADENA, Calif. – In a meet that was nip-and-tuck throughout Mills College pulled out a 105-93 win over Caltech Friday afternoon in a women's swimming meet at the Braun Pool. The Beavers won three of the 11 events competed.
Christine Sun won the 1000 yard freestyle swim with a time of 13:10.85. Sun took the lead from the opening lap and was never challenged the entire race in besting the second place finisher by over two minutes. The first year swimmer also brought home two points with a fourth place finish in the 100 yard butterfly (1:19.66).
The Beavers also won the 200 yard freestyle event as co-captain Caitlin Regan nudged out her opponent by five seconds; scoring nine points for Caltech. Regan was also the runner-up in the 100 yard butterfly (1:10.78).
Misha Raffie posted a win in the 200 yard IM with a time of 2:43.47. Raffie reached the end wall two-seconds prior to the second place finisher. Raffie placed second in the 100 yard backstroke (1:15.17) in one of the most exciting individual race of the afternoon. Nkosazana Nkululeko won the event by less than two seconds. Caltech's Hanna Dodd finished third in the race less than three seconds behind Nkululeko.
The closest race came in the 50 yard freestyle were Nkululeko (27.62) out touched her team mate Jessica Lix by .14 seconds. Dodd was close behind in placing third with a time of 28.75.
Regan and Raffie were the top individual point scorers for the Beavers during the meet. Each scored 13 individual points for the Beavers.
