LA VERNE, Calif. (Oct. 21, 2015) – Freshman Eshan Govil (Redwood City, Calif. / Sacred Heart Prep) continued his breakout week with a four-assist effort in the Caltech men's water polo team's SCIAC opener at the University of La Verne on Wednesday evening.
The hosts rode a dominant first half to victory to improve to 5-13 overall and 1-1 in the SCIAC while the Beavers drop to 7-10 (0-1).
The Beavers fell into a big hole early as the Leopards took a 4-1 lead after the first quarter and had made it 8-1 by halftime. That changed drastically in the second half, with Caltech cutting the deficit to 9-4 in the third quarter and junior Christopher Bradley (Half Moon Bay, Calif. / Serra) netting a hat trick in the fourth, but the Beavers' rally came up short at 11-8.
Bradley finished with five goals to maintain the SCIAC lead while Govil made four assists and senior Patric Eck (Fullerton, Calif. / Troy) kept up his record pace with another six exclusions drawn. Freshmen Shaurya Gilani (Chicago, Ill. / Adlai Stevenson) and John Lloyd (San Diego, Calif. / Torrey Pines) made six and four saves, respectively, in one half of work apiece.
Head Coach Jon Bonafede and the Beavers will head to DIII No. 8 University of Redlands (10-11, 1-1) on Saturday, Oct. 24.
