ORANGE, Calif. (Nov. 15, 2014) – Sophomore Chris Bradley (Half Moon Bay, Calif. / Serra) netted his 25th hat trick to bring his season total to 130 goals as the Caltech men's water polo team closed out the regular season at Chapman University in an 18-11 loss on Saturday morning.
Chapman will enter the SCIAC Postseason Tournament as the #3 seed after amassing a 15-9 overall and 6-2 conference record, while Caltech will be the #9 seed off a 7-19 (0-8) record.
The Panthers opened up a 5-0 lead in the first quarter, with junior Patric Eck (Fullerton, Calif. / Troy) putting the Beavers on the board in their final possession of the period. Chapman extended the lead to six before Eck notched another strike, and the teams traded goals as junior Jim Blackwood (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif. / Palos Verdes Peninsula) and Bradley netted to take Caltech into halftime down five at 9-4.
The Beavers made their move coming out of the break as Bradley quickly put away his next two chances to make it a three-goal game less than two minutes into the third quarter, but Chapman recovered to surge back ahead by six by the fourth quarter. The Panthers would score six more against the Beavers' two to seal the victory.
Bradley led the Beavers with five goals, including all four of their second-half scores.
Head Coach Pat Beemer and the Beavers will prepare to face #8 seed Occidental College (6-23, 1-7) in the play-in game of the SCIAC Postseason Tournament on Friday, Nov. 21 at 11 a.m. in Redlands.
