CLAREMONT, CA - Caltech fell behind early and couldn't that early deficit as they fell to Pomona-Pitzer 16-9 on Saturday morning.
The Sagehens jumped out to a 5-0 lead before Chris Bradley put Caltech on the board late in the first period. A pair of Tommy Turner goals pushed the Pomona-Pitzer lead to a 7-1 advantage after the first eight minutes.
A low scoring second period went the way of the Beavers as they slowly crept back into the game. Connor Lee and Bradley scored in helping Caltech hold a 2-1 scoring edge during that frame.
With the score 8-3 Sagehens to start the final two periods, Austin Strong gave Pomona-Pitzer a 9-3 lead with 5:48 left in the frame. However, a pair of Bradley goals bought the Beavers deficit down to 9-5. However, the Sagehens were just a step ahead as they finished the stazna by scoring three of the final four goals as they took a 12-6 lead heading into the final period.
After a Kyle Van der Linde tally put the home team up 13-6, the Beavers mounted a charge. It was started by back-to-back goals by Bradley then a Jim Blackwood goal with 3:53 left made the score 13-9. However, that was as close Caltech would get as Pomona-Pitzer scored the games final three goals to round out the scoring.
