PASADENA, CA – The Caltech men's water polo team welcomed the nation's top ranked team in their SCIAC home opener on Wednesday afternoon.
Eight different players found the back of the cage for ClaremontMuddScripps in their 16-7 win over the Beavers.
Leading the way for the Stags was sophomore Conrad Shabb's three-goal effort. Caltech's Chris Bradley had a game high five goals as he posted his eighth hat trick of the season.
After the teams split the game's first two goals, the visitors scored three unanswered goals in taking a 4-1 lead after eight minutes. Bradley scored twice in the second period to bring Caltech deficit down to two goals on two occasions (4-2 and 5-3) but the Stags responded each time. ClaremontMuddScripps held a 7-3 lead after the first half.
A high scoring third period saw the teams combine to score nine goals. Unfortunately for the home team, the Stags won the period 6-3 as they took a seven-goal advantage into the final period.
A Bradley goal started the final period but ClaremontMuddScripps finished the contest by scoring the last three to round the scoring.
In addition to Bradley's five goals, Conner Lee and Jerome Skelly found the back of the net for the Beavers. While he didn't score a goal, Patric Eck drew a team best four exclusions as he helped open up the Beavers offense.
