The Beavers men's water polo squad took part in the annual Gary Troyer Tournament the first weekend of October. During the two-day tournament, Caltech played four games.
La Verne 19, Caltech 11 (Scoresheet)
Caltech jumped out to a 3-2 lead after the first eight minutes but the host Leopards responded with a strong second period. La Verne found the back of the net on seven occassions while holding the Beavers to one goal.
La Verne added to their 9-4 halftime advantage by scoring four of the seven goals in the third period. Similar to the Beavers game on Thursday evening game, the final period saw the teams combine for ten goals. Unfortunately for Caltech the result was similar as the their opponents posted a 6-4 scoring edge in the final eight minutes.
Notre Dame (OH) 16, Caltech 7 (Scoresheet)
The Falcons jumped out strong as they posted 5-1 scoring advantages in both the first and second periods en route to the win.
Caltech got on the board three times in the third period but Notre Dame put another five-spot on the scoreboard to put any hopes of a Beaver comeback away.
Chris Bradley put together another strong offense effort by finding the back of the cage four times. Jim Blackwood scored twice while Jerome Skelly rounded out the Caltech goal scorers.
Iona 19, Caltech 7 (Scoresheet)
The Gaels broke open a close game by scoring 13 goals in the final two periods en route to the win.
Iona won the opening eight minutes of action 3-2 then scored three of the four goals scored in the second period as they took a 6-3 lead at the half way point. The New York school tallied the first three goals in the third period and rode that momentum to the win.
Chris Bradley recorded another hat trick as the first-year scored four goals. C.J. Culpepper put together a multi-goal effort by scoring twice.
Caltech 9, PSU-Behrend 8 (Scoresheet)
Chris Bradley scored seven times as the Beavers held off a Nittany Lions come back in posting their second win of the year.
The first-year scored hat tricks in both the first and second periods as Caltech held a 7-5 after the first two periods. Jim Blackwood scored the third period's only goal as the Beaver went ahead 8-5 with eight minutes to play.
Penn State-Behrend scored two unanswered goals in getting their deficit down to 8-7 with 5:06 left in the contest. Bradley scored his final goal of the day with 4:40 left to stretch the Beavers lead to two goals at 9-7. The Nittany Lions scored the game's final goal with 1:42 left but couldn't find the back of the cage during their final possessions.
