WHITTIER, CA – The Caltech men's water polo squad started SCIAC play with a road contest on Wednesday evening against #8 Whittier.
The Poets started strong and never looked back in posting an 18-9 victory.
Whittier scored the game's first two goals less than one minute into the game. However a Patric Eck goal 61 seconds into the contest cut that two goal deficit in half. The home squad went on to score three of the final four goals of the first period to increase their advantage to 5-2.
During the second eight minutes of action the Poets posted a 5-3 scoring edge. Caltech never trailed by more than five goals in the frame but couldn't get their deficit closer than four in trying to grab some of the contest's momentum.
The top 10 team put the contest out of reach by holding a 4-2 edge in the third period to grow their five-goal halftime lead to 14-7. Whittier also held a 4-2 advantage in the final quarter.
Ben Grabowski had 15 blocks in goal for the Beavers.
