Caltech Plays Hard Against #2 Ponoma-Pitzer

CLAREMONT, Calif. – For the second time in as many games, the Caltech men's water polo team faced off against one of the nation's top teams. On a cool night at the Haldeman Pool, Ponoma-Pitzer recorded a 17-6 victory over the Beavers.

The Sagehens (12-11, 3-1 SCAIC) were recently ranked as high as No. 1 in the CWPA National Rankings but dropped to the second spot when the polls were released prior the Wednesday evening's contest.

Ponoma-Pitzer raced out to a 3-0 lead after the first period and continued their momentum into the next eight minutes as they held a 10-2 edge at halftime. Caltech put a pair of goals on the board in the third and fourth periods but couldn't get any more shots past the Sagehens goalie duo of Tyler Hill and Ryan Higgins.

Eight different players scored a goal for the home squad led by Mike Dairyko who tallied a game high four goals.

A trio of Beavers (0-17, 0-4 SCIAC) each put two goals on the board as Adam Kahn, Jack Blackwood and Daniel Sexton each found the back of the net twice.

Thompsen Heavey made eight saves for Caltech.
