PASADENA, Calif. (May 13, 2016) – Caltech men's tennis junior Ruthwick Pathireddy (Cerritos, Calif. / Whitney) has been named Second Team All-SCIAC while Head Coach Mandy Gamble has been recognized as the SCIAC Coach of the Year.
Pathireddy became the program's career leader in singles victories this season, having amassed 29 wins over his three years as a Beaver. During Caltech's unprecedented 2016 season, he posted a 12-4 overall record across courts #2-4, including a 5-3 mark in SCIAC play and a 7-1 ledger at #3 singles. His impact was even more evident in doubles, where he posted a 13-7 record overall and 7-3 mark in SCIAC competition, including a remarkable 10-2 run to end the season alongside #2 doubles partner freshman Derik Nguyen (Anaheim, Calif. / Canyon). The duo also notched the program's first individual victory over a regionally ranked opponent in at least the last five years and possibly more than 10.
Gamble led Pathireddy and the rest of the Beavers to finish the season with an even 10-10 record, the program's most wins since 2000 and the first time Caltech has finished at or above .500 since 1994. The squad also recorded the program's first win over a nationally ranked opponent and earned its first-ever national ranking while tying for fourth place in the SCIAC regular season, which marked the team's best place since 1996.
The Beavers were also recognized as a squad with the Sportsmanship Team award for the third straight year.
