PASADENA, Calif. (Mar. 6, 2015) – Sophomore Ruthwick Pathireddy (Whitney, Calif. / Irvine) had a hand in both points for the Caltech men's tennis team, winning at #1 doubles and singles as the Beavers fell, 7-2, to Biola University on Friday afternoon.
The visiting Eagles quickly gained the upper hand with an 8-0 victory at #3 doubles, but the Beavers answered with an 8-4 win at #1. A tight match at #2 for the crucial go-ahead point ensued, with the Eagles getting a late break to take it 8-6 and lead 2-1 heading into singles.
Quick wins at courts #6 and #2 took Biola within one point of clinching the match, but Pathireddy's opponent retired at #1 singles already trailing 6-4, 4-1 to give Caltech its second point of the match. The Eagles broke through for the win in a tight 7-6, 6-3 win at #5 to take the match and came out ahead in superbreakers at both #3 and #4 to end the evening.
Head Coach Mandy Gamble and the Beavers will host Principia College (1-2) on Tuesday, Mar. 10 at 10:00 a.m.
