Men's Tennis Releases 2015 Schedule, Will Host SCIAC Championships

PASADENA, Calif. (Nov. 21, 2014) – The Caltech men's tennis team has released its schedule for the 2015 season.  The Beavers will host 14 matches on campus in addition to the SCIAC Championships from May 1-2.

The Beavers will open the season with 11 straight home matches, beginning with SCIAC foe the University of Redlands on the first of five consecutive Saturday matches on Jan. 31 at 10 a.m.  Caltech will host NAIA Biola University on Feb. 7 before returning to conference play with back-to-back matches vs. Occidental College (Feb. 14) and Whittier College (Feb. 21).

Caltech will then welcome Hope International (Friday, Feb. 27) ahead of two out-of-region foes in Clark University (Sunday, Mar. 1) from Massachusetts and Principia College (Tuesday, Mar. 10) from Illinois ahead of a busy Spring Break slate that includes five matches in eight days.

Indiana-based Earlham College arrives on Friday, Mar. 20 to open the Spring Break schedule and will be followed by Pacific Lutheran (Sunday, Mar. 22) from Washington and a pair of Oregon schools in Pacific University (Monday, Mar. 23) and Willamette University (Wednesday, Mar. 25).  The Beavers pick conference play back up with their first road match of the season at Chapman University on Friday, Mar. 27.

The team will celebrate Alumni Appreciation Day on Saturday, Apr. 4 as Occidental College crosses the 110 Freeway.  Caltech hosts one final non-conference foe in Arizona Christian University on Friday, Apr. 10 before a stretch run of three road SCIAC matches.

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges host Caltech on Saturday, Apr. 11 and the Beavers will finish up the regular season at Pomona-Pitzer Colleges (Saturday, Apr. 11) and California Lutheran University (Saturday, Apr. 18).

The Beavers will also participate as individuals in the 115th Annual Ojai Valley Tournament from Friday, Apr. 24-Sunday, Apr.26.

Caltech will host the SCIAC Men's Tennis Championships on Friday and Saturday, May 1-2.

The Beavers were ranked No. 13 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) West Region Preseason Poll on Oct. 30.  Caltech returns four of its six regular singles players from last year, including its #1 doubles tandem in the Pathireddy twins, Ruthwick and Sathwick (Irvine, Calif. / Whitney).  Sathwick beat the previous program record for wins in a single season with 11, but classmate Morgan Lebby (Laguna Beach, Calif. / Laguna Beach) outpaced him by one at #5 singles to set the mark at 12 wins.  The squad also returns junior Rushikesh Joshi (Sunnyvale, Calif. / Archbishop Mitty), who held down the #4 spot, but will miss his brother, four-year #1 singles starter Devashish, who has since graduated along with #6 singles player Luka Mernick.
