Men's Tennis Preview

With the men's tennis season quickly approaching, the Beavers will rely on a healthy mix of returning players and fresh faces to continue an upward momentum for the program.

Devashish Joshi has been a constant in the Beavers line-up since setting onto campus. Now a senior, he is poised to play his final season as Caltech's top player. Every time he has stepped onto the court, he has been the team's No. 1 singles player.

His brother, Rushikesh, was solid as the Beavers No. 2 singles player last season. During his first year with the squad he recorded six wins at that spot. In addition, those six wins were the second most of the team. The team leader in wins last season was Luka Mernik. The senior posted seven wins while playing all but one match at the third singles slot.

"The Joshi brothers are doing a fantastic job at motivating and inspiring the team," said head coach Mandy Gamble. "Our returning players have set the tone for us to have a great season."

Alex Henny returns for his sophomore season after posting four wins while playing mostly in the fourth and fifth singles positions last year. Leo Zornberg rounds out the returning players; the native of Austin, Texas will provide depth to the squad.

The Beavers will welcome four newcomers to the fold this season. While each of them are new to the collegiate game, each of them brings a solid skill set that could translate into success during their season of NCAA tennis.

The twin duo of Ruthwick and Sathwick Pathireddy will look to make an immediate impact. Hailing from Irvine, CA they helped lead Whitney High School to a runner-up finish at the state championships last season. Both of them were three-time recipients of all-league honors.

Morgan Lebby, from Laguna Beach, CA, also had solid exploits during his time in high school. An all-league selection in the Orange Coast league, he also reached the finals of the league singles tournament. Abhijit Puranam played high school tennis for two years and is poised for continued improvement as he looks to contribute to the squad's success.
