PASADENA, Calif. (Sept. 19, 2015) – Freshman Tristan Née (Dallas, Texas / R.L. Turner) staked the Caltech men's soccer team to a 1-0 halftime lead over the University of Redlands before the visiting Bulldogs rallied in the second half to record a 2-1 victory on Saturday afternoon.

Redlands improves to 4-2 overall and 2-2 in the SCIAC while Caltech is now 0-4 (0-4).

After several close chances for Redlands in the opening 30 minutes, sophomore Ashwin Hari (Allen, Texas / Plano East Senior) made the most important save to that point in the game as he cleared a certain goal off the line in the 34th minute.  The ball found its way to midfield, where senior Valentin Skoutnev (Houston, Texas / College Park) sent it forward to Née, who dribbled around the onrushing keeper into the box and directed the go-ahead goal into an empty net.

Junior J.D. Feist (Richardson, Texas / Jesuit College Prep) made seven saves in the game, but the Bulldogs scored on a pair of crosses to the back post within seven minutes of each other to steal the win.

The Redlands attack was relentless from the start, forcing a pair of saves and earning four corner kicks in the first five minutes alone.  The Beavers soon settled down and found their shape to limit the pressure, which paid off on Née's breakaway strike.  Caltech did allow another shot on goal in the final 11 minutes of the half.

Skoutnev created a chance to make it 2-0 10 minutes after halftime as he fought hard to win the ball at midfield, dribbled through a pair of defenders and reached the end line, but did not quite have the angle to trouble the Bulldogs substitute keeper.

Just a minute later, Redlands' Keoni Yates took the ball down the right wing and sent a low cross to the back post, where Cody Dunham punched it in from six yards out for the equalizer.  Redlands' next shot also went in, with Peter Marsden swinging a free kick to the back post, where Ben Thompson nodded it onto and past the goal line to give his team the lead.

Caltech had one other scoring opportunity as sophomore Chris Haack (New York, N.Y. / The Browning School) beat a man up the middle and took a shot from the top of the box, but his effort went wide.  The teams played fairly evenly over the final 20 minutes, but Caltech could not level the match and Redlands left with the victory.

Head Coach Phil Murray and the Beavers will head to Cal Lutheran University (1-5-1, 1-3) on Wednesday, Sept. 23 for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
