AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. (Jan. 12, 2019) – The Caltech men's epee team shone through once again as the Beavers' top unit, picking up a pair of victories at last weekend's Western Invitational.
The squad, consisting of freshman Luc Davis (Lafayette, Calif. / Tilden Preparatory School) and senior Qifan Wang (Surrey, Canada / Semiahmoo Secondary) collectively earned a pair of 5-4 victories over Brandeis University and the University of Florida. The trio also found themselves on the verge of defeating invitational host United States Air Force Academy, earning four wins against the Falcons. The shorthanded Beavers competed without two of its top fencers, sophomore Zimo Zhu (Buffalo Grove, Ill. / Adlai E. Stevenson) and senior Alex White (Dallas, Texas / North Hills).
The men's fencing team came closest to taking down Florida thanks to a pair of foil victories from sophomore Andrew Chan (Denver, Col. / Littleton). Chan's only defeat came at the hands of Florida's top foilist and also competed at epee where Caltech gained a collective six wins on Stanford University.
Head Coach Carla Corbit and the Beavers will hit the road again on Saturday, Feb. 2 when they travel to the Northwestern Duals.
