PORTLAND, Ore. (Dec. 16, 2016) – Senior David LeBaron (San Diego, Calif. / Francis Parker) helped lead the effort for Caltech men's basketball on Friday when the Beavers fell to host Lewis & Clark College in the final game of their Oregon road trip.
Lebaron scored 12 points and pulled down six rebounds, all of which came on the defensive side. He also led the team with three steals and went 3-for-4 on free throws. The forward was not the only Beaver to reach double-figures, however. Freshman guard Alec Andrews (Folsom Calif. / Folsom) led the team with 13 points, made all three of his free throw attempts while going 2-for-2 from beyond the arc. Andrews also factored in defensively by swiping two steals of his own.
Brent Cahill (Laguna Beach, Calif. / St. Margaret's) provided the Beavers with a spark off the bench, scoring 10 points on 4-of-11 shooting from the field. Coincidentally, Andrews, LeBaron and senior center Nasser Al-Rayes (Doha, Qatar / American School of Doha) all posted 4-for-11 shooting lines in the loss.
Playing its third road game in three days, Caltech held its own early before coming apart in last five minutes of the first half. The Beavers headed into the half trailing by 12 and were unable to regain the momentum from earlier in the game when they held a 13-12 lead with just under eight minutes to go in the first half.
Head Coach Dr. Oliver Eslinger and the Beavers will next take on Carthage College from Wisconsin at home on Monday. They will be seeking their first win of the 2016-17 season.
