NEW YORK (Nov. 23, 2015) – The Caltech men's basketball team was featured in the latest issue of national magazine Sports Illustrated (Nov. 23, 2015) and online at SI.com following its three SCIAC wins last February and season-opening victory over Occidental College on Nov. 14.
Penned by award-winning Senior Writer Chris Ballard, the piece centers on the program's recent success in light of the notorious 310-game conference losing streak that was broken in the final game of the 2010-11 season. While that victory gained national attention, the Beavers endured another 55-game losing streak before defeating three SCIAC foes in successive home games last February to record the first season with three SCIAC wins since 1960-61 and equal the total number of SCIAC games won over the previous 43 years.
Ballard chronicles Head Coach Dr. Oliver Eslinger's arrival at Caltech eight years ago through the process of turning the program into a SCIAC contender, where it sees itself this year. While men's basketball has received the national exposure recently, the entire intercollegiate athletics program has improved tremendously over the past few years. Several teams and individuals have received numerous accolades and reached multiple milestones as the entire department quickly becomes more competitive within the SCIAC and nationally.
The Beavers host their home opener against Linfield College (2-0) this Wednesday, Nov. 25 at 7 p.m. The game will be streamed live online along with Livestats, both of which can be accessed from the team's schedule page.
