PASADENA, Calif. – Michael Edwards was named to the SCIAC's second-team all-conference squad for his efforts during league play this past season. The yearly awards are voted on by the conference's eight head coaches.
Edwards was the SCIAC's ninth leading scorer at 14.4 points per
game. The native of Canyon Country, Calif., was third among league
players in three-pointers made with 49. He scored 20 or more points
on six occasions this season which was tied for the fourth best
mark in the conference.
"We are very proud of Michael's development. He has done so many intangibles for us this season, aspects of team sport that don't show up in the statistics," said fourth year head coach Oliver Eslinger. "He works hard mentally and is a big reason we remained competitive throughout the year."
One of the team's tri-captains, Edwards swatted away 23 shots this season which was good enough to tie for the fourth best mark in the league this season. The junior also played the fifth most minutes in the league (794) and ranked 12th in free throw percentage (71.9 percent).
Heading into his senior campaign he is 97 points away from becoming the school's all-time leading scorer. George Papa, a 1994 graduate, currently is Caltech's career scoring leader with 1297 points. Edwards has participated in all 75 games the Beavers have played the last three seasons.
He is the 29th player in Caltech history to be named to the season ending all-conference squad.
