Baseball Announces 2018 Schedule

PASADENA (Aug. 8, 2017) – The Caltech baseball team has announced its schedule for the 2018 season, which will include 23 home games.

Head Coach Matt Mark's squad will open the season with a non-conference game against Occidental College on Saturday, Feb. 3 at noon to kick off a four-game home stand that concludes with a three-game series versus Providence Christian College.  The Beavers host PCC at 3 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 9, with a seven/nine-inning doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m. the following day.  Rising junior Mark Burleson (Ladera Ranch, Calif. / Tesoro) plated three in the second game of a doubleheader split against the Sea Beggars last spring.

Caltech opens conference play quickly at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps for the second straight year the weekend of Feb. 16-17, with the Saturday doubleheader played in Pasadena.  Series against the University of La Verne and Oxy are set for the following two weeks heading into a six-game Spring Break schedule still to be determined.

The Beavers continue SCIAC play against the University of Redlands in Pasadena on Friday, Mar. 23 before hosting a midweek game with Middlebury College on Tuesday, Mar. 27 at 3:30 p.m.

The most anticipated series of the season arrives the following weekend as Caltech heads to Pomona-Pitzer Colleges on Mar. 30 and hosts the next-day doubleheader.  The Sagehens suffered defeat to Caltech on Mar. 31 this past year for the Beavers' first SCIAC victory since 1988 and narrowly escaped with a walk-off victory in the 10th inning the next morning.

Caltech enters the final month of the season with three SCIAC opponents in succession, beginning with Chapman University and Whittier College, against whom the Beavers claimed their second SCIAC win of the past 30 years (Caltech's previous SCIAC victory in 1988 also came against the Poets).  The conference slate concludes with a series against defending Division III national champion California Lutheran University, with the Beavers hosting the Friday game on Apr. 20.

Coach Mark and the Beavers will end the regular season with a trip to the Midwest for a three-game series at the University of Chicago on Apr. 28-29, with the SCIAC Tournament set for the first weekend in May.
