Men's Soccer Falls to Cal Lutheran in SCIAC Opener

Box Score

PASADENA, Calif. (Sep 14, 2022) – The Caltech men's soccer team opened SCIAC play at home yesterday evening against Cal Lutheran. Unfortunately, the Kingsmen gave the Beavers their first conference loss of the season by a score of 4-1.

The Kingsmen scored first at minute 18:38, but the Beavers quickly responded to the deficit. Less than six minutes later, senior Samir Johnson (Portland, Ore. / Jesuit) and freshman Etienne Casanova (San Jose, Saratoga) linked up the midfield, with Casanova then sliding the ball out to sophomore Andy Dimanku (Wellesley, Mass. / Wellesley) who found freshman Jack Myles (Houston, Texas / Bridgeland) in the box. Myles found the back of the net to tie the game 1-1, scoring his second goal of the season.

The Cal Lutheran defense would tighten up after this, allowing their offense to score 3 unanswered goals on the Beavers. Despite the loss, senior goalkeeper and SCIAC defensive player of the week Derek Ing (Hong Kong / Hong Kong International School) made 5 impressive saves on the day.

Head Coach Duncan Gillis and the men's soccer team will quickly regroup and prepare for Saturday's home match against Redlands at 11:00 a.m. Follow us on social media or visit gocaltech.com for the game's live stream, stats, and results.
