Men's Soccer Defense Tested at Willamette

Box Score

SALEM, Ore. (Sept. 13, 2019) – The Caltech men's soccer team saw its defense put to the test to the greatest extent thus far this season when it took on Willamette University in the first game of its road trip to the Pacific Northwest.

The Beavers generated a pair of quality chances in each half of Friday's game, but a relentless attack from the home team forced them to lean on their defenders to keep the game competitive. Senior goalkeeper Richard Shim (New York, N.Y. / Phillips Acad.) drew the start in net and picked up three saves in his first bit of action in 2019. Meanwhile, senior midfielder Theo Yang (Columbia, Md. / Long Reach) and junior forward Rohan Mirchandani (Pleasanton, Calif. / Foothill) each had a quality chance in the first and second half respectively thwarted by the opposing goalkeeper. Junior defender JD Walker (Grand Blanc, Mich. / Grand Blanc) also had a quality chance go wide of the net after creating a great run in the game's final seconds.

Head Coach Phil Murray and the Beavers will play one more game up north on Sunday, Sept. 15 at Northwest University.
