PASADENA, Calif. (Apr. 2, 2018) – The Caltech men's and women's cross country teams have qualified for the list of NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Scholar Teams of the Year as named by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
The men's team finished with a 3.75 cumulative GPA, up 11 points from last year for the highest mark in the nation, while the women put together a 3.39. The top-graded women's team (Fontbonne University) finished with a 3.94 cumulative GPA and 388 teams made the list in all. For teams to be considered for the list, they must have competed and compiled a team score at an NCAA Regional Meet and meet a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.10 on the traditional 4.0 scale. Freshman Claire Hu (Palo Alto, Calif. / Henry M. Gunn) earned individual honors as well by way of her top-25 percent finish at regionals and surpassing the minimum 3.30 GPA.
The Beavers competed at the NCAA West Regional meet this year and the men's team recorded its best finish since 1997 when the region featured just nine teams. The women, meanwhile took 14th overall, and improvement on last year's finish amidst a 19-team field.
