RIVERSIDE, CA -- The Caltech cross country teams competed on Saturday morning at the UC Riverside Invitational.
The meet featured four different races with more than 50 different racing teams and 500-plus harriers on a warm and sunny day.
During the women's race the Beavers top finishers was Juliette Becker who completed the loop in 20:11. First-year Rachel Thorp was a few seconds behind her as she finished the 5K course in 20:21. Stephanie Reynolds was Caltech's third harrier across the finish line in 20:23.
Marlyn Moore, dating back to last season, continued her trend of scoring finishes as she finished fourth among Caltech runners with a time of 21:10. Trisha Guchait rounded out the Caltech scoring harriers by crossing the line in 22:55.
As a team the ladies finished 13th out of 18 squads. They topped SCIAC foe Chapman as well as two NCAA Division II schools in the process (Cal State-San Bernardino, Cal State-Los Angeles). In addition, the squad finished just behind conference members Redlands (12th place) and Whittier (10th).
The men's race for the Beavers was led by Aditya Bhagavathi's second consecutive top Caltech finish. The first-year crossed the finish line in 27:31. Andy Zucker was the second Beaver runners to complete the 8K course. The senior clipped the tape in 28:59. Juan Adame was a few clicks behind Zucker has he finished in 29:08.
In his first race of the season, Ian Koss was the fourth scoring runner for the Beavers. Koss recorded a time of 29:20. Elliott Simon completed the race in 29:30 to register as the fifth and final Caltech scoring runner in his second collegiate race.
The men finished tied for seventh out of 11 teams. Caltech topped fellow SCIAC schools Chapman and Whittier while finishing one spot below sixth place Redlands.
