Beaver Harriers Make National Academic Mark

PASADENA, Calif. – The USTFCCCA recognized the men's and women's cross country teams as having one the top team GPA's in the nation. To qualify as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Team, the team must have had a cumulative team GPA of 3.10 through the 2011 fall semester.

The Caltech's men's squad posted a 3.65 GPA which was the second best mark among NCAA Division III schools with only Centre College's (KY) 3.71 mark having higher tally.

On the women's side the Beavers had a 3.58 GPA between the nine runners on the team. Their score is the 16th best mark in the nation.

"I am really proud of their commitment to being a well-round student-athlete," 13th year head coach Scott Jung said. "The honor is also a testament to their ability to support each other both on the course and in their academic endeavors."

Across the country there were 187 women's teams who earned the team accolade while 131 men's squads received the honor.
