PASADENA, Calif. (Mar. 15, 2018) – Junior Gemma Takahashi (San Jose, Calif. / Leland) led Caltech's season-best five-goal effort against a SCIAC foe when the Beavers traveled to the University of La Verne for Thursday's women's water polo match.
Takahashi found the back of the net on two occasions, first in the opening period with the second goal coming in the next on an assist from fellow junior Hana Keller (Sammamish, Wash. / Tesla STEM), who finished the day with two assists. Takahashi, meanwhile also went 3-for-4 on sprints. Senior Devi Ganapathi (La Crescenta, Calif. / Crescenta Valley) notched her first goal of the season, while junior Katie Johnston (Livermore, Calif. / Livermore) and sophomore Mackenzie Wooten (Las Vegas, Nev. / Northwest Career and Technical Academy) rounded out the Beavers' Thursday evening offense. Sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Kreider (River Forest, Ill. / Oak Park and River Forest) made four saves playing half the game and led her team with three steals.
Head Coach Jon Bonafede and the Beavers will embark on a three-game road trip to Pennsylvania this weekend, beginning on Saturday, Mar. 17 when they take on Grove City at 5 p.m. PT.
