THOUSAND OAKS, CA – The Caltech women's water polo team started their 2013 campaign at the Posada Royale Tournament hosted by Cal Lutheran. The Beavers played four-game during a two-day stretch.
"We made progress as the weekend continued and I am proud of the way we battled each game. With a full squad now in place we are going to build momentum and get stronger as the season moves along," said head coach Josh Moser.
Saturday, March 2 – La Verne 16, Caltech 6 (Score Sheet)
The seventh ranked Leopards jumped out to a lead early and used that early momentum for the victory.
After a low scoring first period, in which La Verne scored the only goal, the Leopards scored six unanswered goals in the second period.
Caltech scored three goals in the third quarter put five goals by the Leopard kept them in front. La Verne won the final period by a 4-3 count.
The Beavers got a pair of goals from Hanna Dodd and first-year Soumya Kannan. Marguax Lopez and Rachel Moore each found the back of the net. The goals were collegiate firsts for Kannan, Lopez and Moore.
Connie Hsueh made 13 stops in front of the cage.
Saturday, March 2 – Azusa Pacific 22, Caltech 3 (Score Sheet)
The Cougars had 11 different players find the back of the cage in posting the win.
Azusa Pacific held a 7-1 lead after the game's first eight minutes. They continued their pressure in the second period as they score six goals while keeping Caltech off the scoreboard.
The final 16 minutes of action was similar to the first 16 as the Cougars won the third period 7-1 then held a 2-1 scoring edge in the final stanza

Sunday, March 3 – Chapman 15, Caltech 3 (Score Sheet)
Caltech battled the ninth ranked team in the country early but the depth of Chapman previaled as the Panthers pulled away.
The Chapman offense found the back of the net for the first two goals of the game but Caltech rallied by scoring two of the period's final three goals. With the Beavers trailing by 4-2 count, Chapman held Caltech scoreless while finding the back of the net four times in the second period.
After the teams traded goals to start the third period, Chapman finished the game with six unanawserrted goals in taking the win.
Hanna Dodd scored all three goals for Caltech while Connie Hsueh played a solidly in goal by blocking 16 shots. Just two short of her career high.
Sunday, March 3 – Villanova 13, Caltech 4 (Score Sheet)
Caltech concluded the tournament against NCAA Division I foe.
The two team traded goals to start the game but the Wildcats finished the frame by scoring the final two goals. Karen Dowling put the Beavers second goal of the board to start the second period but the Villanova offense was up to the task as they finished the period on a 3-0 scoring run.
Villanova scored the first goal of the third period but a Hanna Dodd tally made the score 7-3 and kept the game interesting. However that four-goal deficit was as close as Caltech would get down the stretch. The Wildcats scored five of the final six goals.
Hsueh concluded her solid weekend in goal by blocking 12 shots.
