PASADENA, Calif. -- The third-ranked Cal Lutheran women's water polo squad had 12 different players find the back of the net in their 19-4 win over Caltech on Wednesday afternoon in a SCIAC match-up.
The Regals scored four goals during their first five possessions and never looked back from there. Cal Lutheran ended the first period up 6-1 five different players scoring goals.
Anastasia Markovtsova scored the first goal of the second period to bring Caltech within 6-2 but the visitors scored three unanswered goals to finish out the stanza in taking a 9-2 edge at intermission.
Cal Lutheran continued their scoring push by scoring the first six goals of the third period in helping them take a commanding 15-3 lead into the final period.
The final eight minutes of action saw the Regals post a 4-1 scoring edge to close out the contest.
The Regals got hat tricks from a pair of players as Christina Messer and Illissa Mestas each scored three goals.
Carly Bond scored her first two goals of the season for the Beavers while goals by Markovtsova and Hanna Dodd rounded out the Caltech contributors.
Connie Hsueh blocked 12 shots for the Beavers. It was the eighth time this season the first-year recorded 10 or more blocks in a game.
