CLAREMONT, Calif. (Oct. 25, 2016) – Freshman Alexa Lauinger (Ortonville, Mich. / Brandon) continued her recent resurgence with an eight-kill, 10-dig effort in a Caltech volleyball defeat at No. 3 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges on Tuesday night.
Lauinger committed just a single attacking error as she hit a season-high .219 in a SCIAC match, while classmate Lauren Li (Bellaire, Texas / Bellaire) also reached double digits in digs (10) and rookie Ellie Walker (Minneapolis, Minn. / Blake School) tallied 12 assists on the Beavers' 14 kills.
The hosts jumped out to a 10-3 lead in the first set and traded points with the Beavers until winning, 25-14. CMS rode a 15-4 run in the second set to win, 25-10, and separated from Caltech for good after a 14-9 lead in the third, scoring 11 of the final 13 points to clinch the match.
