THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. (Oct. 13, 2015) – Seniors Amarise Little (Orlando, Fla. / Freedom)and Harinee Maiyuran (Irvine, Calif. / Arnold O. Beckman) led the Caltech volleyball team to its best set score in 10 years despite a 3-0 defeat at No. 6 California Lutheran University on Tuesday night.
The Regals improve to 19-2 overall and remain perfect in SCIAC play at 9-0 while the Beavers are now 2-15 (0-10).
The hosts exploded out of the gates to lead 15-3 and quickly closed out the first set, 25-6.  The second set brought more of the same, with CLU going ahead 13-3 en route to a 25-8 win.  Up against the ropes, the Beavers stepped up their game to score the first three points of the set.  The Regals recovered to take a 13-7 lead, but Caltech bounced back to pull within two at 15-13, but CLU outpaced the Beavers down the stretch to claim the 25-17 victory.
Little recorded two kills, both her blocks and a service ace while Maiyuran registered one kill and six of her 12 assists in the third set alone.  Senior Cat Jamshidi (Burke, Va. / Lake Braddock Secondary School) smacked four kills and recorded seven digs as Little, freshman Subhadra Vetrivel (Redmond, Wash. / Overlake School) and junior Kate Lewis (San Antonio, Texas / Ronald Reagan) contributed three kills apiece, with Lewis adding five digs.
