PASADENA, CA - On senior night the Caltech women's volleyball team dropped a hard fought four-set match to West Coast Baptist (26-24, 15-25, 25-14, 25-23).
During the match Logan re-set the school record for most kills in a match as the senior slammed down a match high 25 kills. Earlier this season Logan set the school record with 22. During Monday evenings contest she also posted a personal best 18 digs.
Kitto recorded a personal best eight kills. Lee dug up 11 balls from her libero position while Hess notched 28 assists as the Beavers primary setter.
The opening set was a back-and-forth affair with neither team holding a lead larger than three points. Caltech had an opportunity to seal the set at 24-23 but a Promise Robinson kill extended the set and help propel the visitors to a scoring spurt that won the set.
Caltech responded nicely in the second frame as they controlled play from the start. After trailing early in the set they grabbed the lead at 5-4 and never looked back as they tied the match at a set each.
The Eagles flipped the script in the third set as they jumped out to the early lead and never trailed. Caltech got as close as four points at 12-8 but couldn't pull closer as West Coast Baptist went up 2-1.
The final set saw West Coast Baptist jump out early and seemingly grab a controlling lead. However a defiant Beavers team rallied from down 16-9. Caltech eventually took an 18-16 lead but the visitors slowly nudged back in front as they took a 23-21 lead. After an Eagles service error Caltech had a chance to tie the match but on the next point a Jessica Chappell kill gave West Coast Baptist two match points. Caltech saved the first one but a Chappell tip attempt at the net fell to floor to give the Eagles the win.
Chappell had a team best 17 kills to aid in the Eagles win.
