Conference Leader Cal Lutheran Sweep Caltech

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The Cal Lutheran volleyball squad played like the top team in the SCIAC as they posted a 3-0 (25-6, 25-12, 25-10) win over Caltech on Tuesday evening. Cal Lutheran came into the match as the 15th ranked team in the latest AVCA Division III poll.

The Regals showed their depth as 13 different players recorded at least one kills during the set sweep. Rachel Smith led all front line players with seven kills on nine attempts (.778 hitting percentage) in two sets. Erin Hedrick had five kills on seven attempts (.714) to aid in the home team's efforts.

Coming into the match the Regals were second in the league in kills and hitting percentage. During Tuesday evening's contest they recorded 36 kills and a .444 hitting mark while holding Caltech to six kills and a negative hitting mark. Cal Lutheran's serve game was effective all night as they had 19 services aces to assist in their sweep.

Katie Ching had a team best three kills while posting three digs along the back row. Teri Juarez pitched in a Beaver best five digs.

Caltech had 4.0 team blocks which was the best mark they posted against a conference opponent during the 2011 season.

The Beavers final home match of the season is this Friday at 7:30 when they face-off against ClaremontMuddScripps at the Braun Athletic Center.
