WHITTIER, Calif. (Oct. 9, 2017) – The Caltech women's soccer team nearly made it two in a row and nearly bagged its first win against a SCIAC opponent when it traveled to Whittier College on Monday evening.
Freshman Netra Ravishankar (Fremont, Calif. / American) found the net in the 62nd minute to know the game at one following a scoreless first half. Fellow freshman Krystin Brown (Lake Forest, Calif. / Trabuco Hills) assisted on the goal. The two players hold the distinction of being the first and second goal scorers for the Beavers in team history. The game also saw the visiting Beavers register seven shots, a team best in SCIAC play.
Following an uneventful first half to Caltech's benefit, Whittier got on the board with a quick goal, but Ravishankar answered after Brown found her on a nice pass on the attack. Freshman goalkeeper Kali Drango (Lake Oswego, Ore. / Lake Oswego), a recent yet key addition to the roster made eight saves to keep the Beavers' hopes at a first SCIAC victory alive. Six of her saves came in the second half, a credit to the Caltech defense for holding its ground and not letting the Poets through its defensive shell.
Head Coach Taylor Houck and the Beavers will return home on Thursday, Oct. 12 for a Senior Night clash against La Sierra University.
