POMONA, Calif. (Oct. 2, 2017) – Freshman goalkeeper Kali Drango (Lake Oswego, Ore. / Lake Oswego) debuted for Caltech women's soccer and stopped 11 shots at Pomona-Pitzer Colleges on Monday.
The host Sagehens (6-4-1, 3-2-1 SCIAC) combined for 17 shots on goal but Drango stopping more than half of them bodes well for the basketball recruit's future as the Beavers' keeper. Sophomore midfielder Noelle Davis (Fort Worth, Texas / Texas Acad. of Math & Science) fired the Beavers' only shot on goal, and freshmen Netra Ravishankar (Fremont, Calif. / American) and Krystin Brown (Lake Forest, Calif. / Trabuco Hills) also registered shots.
The Caltech defense had some moments in the first half. Drango made five of her saves in the game's first 45 minutes but the Beavers also allowed just one goal within the frame. Additionally, all three of the Beavers' shots occurred in the first half. The Sagehens did not score until the 33-minute mark.
Head Coach Taylor Houck and the Beavers will return home on Friday, Oct. 6 to face visiting Shepherd University (Calif).
