PASADENA, Calif. (Sept. 5, 2017) – Sophomore Megan Durney (Escondido, Calif. / Escondido Charter) made a whopping 15 saves in the Caltech women's soccer team's home opener on Tuesday afternoon.
Durney stopped 15 of the 21 shots on goal she faced in the 6-0 defeat to Chapman University that included two goals in the final minute. Chapman struck early in the seventh minute on a high, arching shot that was just out of Durney's reach and doubled the lead 10 minutes later on a shot across the face of goal.
The Caltech defense locked in for the remainder of the half, limiting the Panthers to speculative efforts from outside the box through halftime. The Beavers earned a pair of good free kick chances in the second half, but the only offense of record would come via a pair of shots on goal by freshman Krystin Brown (Lake Forest, Calif. / Trabuco Hills) in the 65th and 74th minutes. Chapman went on to add a third tally in the 57th minute as well as late scores in the 76th, 89th and 90th minutes.
Head Coach Taylor Houck and the Beavers will host Occidental College (0-0) on Thursday, Sept. 7 at 5 p.m.
