Beaver Seniors Honored in Home Finale Against Redlands

PASADENA, CA – During their final home of the season, the Caltech women's basketball team hung tough with Redlands before the Bulldogs pulled away for a 77-55 win.

It was senior night for the Beavers as three individual participated in their last contest at the Braun Athletic Center. Garima Gupta, Rachel Hess and Tiffany Huang were honored pre-game for their contributions to the program.

While the Beavers never led the first half, they stayed within striking distance throughout. Redlands took a 15-5 lead just before the midway point of the half but Caltech responded. On back-to-back possessions the home team got a beautiful three-point play from Stephanie Wong then a three-pointer from Ann Chen. Those plays culminated an 11-2 Beavers scoring spree as Caltech was down just 17-16 with 6:33 left until the halftime horn.

Redlands responded to the Beavers threat. During the final six-plus minutes, the Bulldogs outscored Caltech by nine as they went into the locker room with a 36-26 lead.

Stephanie Wong started the second half with a shot from deep to cut their Beaver deficit to seven points. Unfortunately the home team couldn't pull any closer. Redlands stretched their seven point lead over the next nine minutes to grab all the game's momentum. The Bulldogs went on a 25-9 scoring spurt as they went ahead 61-38 with 11:16 left until the final horn. Caltech couldn't get their deficit under 20 points the rest of the game.

Hess scored four points and grabbed two rebounds in her final game while Huang played eight minutes as she grabbed two steals and a rebound.

Redland's Brittany Oster went 10-for-18 from the floor en route to her 25-point evening.
