The Caltech women's basketball team traveled to Claremont-MuddScripps for the CMS/Caltech Winter Classic this weekend. All games were hosted by CMS at Ted Ducey Gym.
The event features four teams and two games each for the participating schools.
Southwestern (AZ) 70, Caltech 33
Box Score v. SWC
Southwestern (1-2) jumped out to a 19-7 lead and never let Caltech get their deficit down to single digits the rest of the game en route to the win.
Caltech (0-5) was plagued by shooting woes as they coverted 25.5 percent (12-of-47) of their field goal attempts. The Beavers also committed a season high 38 turnovers. Southwestern turned those Caltech miscues into 40 points.
Cal State Maritime 82, Caltech 35
Unfortunately for the Beavers the story from Friday evening repeated itself less than 24 hours later as Cal State Maritime scored 17 of the game's first 21 points in taking a 17-4 lead with 12:54 left in the first half.
Caltech couldn't find the scoring touch to respond. In both the first and second frames the Beavers went 7-for-21 from the field.
Cal State Maritime (1-7) was aided by a solid shooting touch from the outside as they nailed 10 of their 23 three-point shots. The Keelhaulers took advantage of 24 Beaver turnovers by converting them into 31 points.
The duo of Logan and Krissy Dahl were the Beavers (0-6) best scoring options. The post players hit for seven and eight points respectively to lead the scoring efforts.
