NEW ORLEANS (July 26, 2018) – The Caltech men's and women's track and field programs have each qualified as U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic teams for 2018. The USTFCCCA honored 106 men's programs this year in addition to 185 women's teams, with the Caltech men's team coming within a tenth of a grade point of having the highest GPA of the bunch. In order to be in contention for Scholar Team of the Year, a program must finish highly at the respective national championship meet and have at least a 3.00 cumulative team GPA.

In addition, freshman sprinter Nora Griffith (Santa Cruz, Calif. / Santa Cruz) became the lone Caltech track & field athlete to receive individual recognition from the USTFCCCA. Griffith is one of 30 SCIAC women's athletes to make the list of 627 track & field competitors. To qualify for USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.30 and must have competed in an NCAA Indoor or Outdoor Championship, or finished the regular season ranked in the national top-50 in an individual event or ranked in the national top-35 in a relay event.
