Beavers Hit Mid-Season Form with Split Meet Format

EAGLE ROCK, CA  - On Friday night (3/14) at the Oxy Distance Carnival, senior Katherine Breeden eclipsed here own school record in the 10k with a time of 43:17.90, keeping her firmly in the #1 spot on the All-Time Top 10 in this event. 

PASADENA, CA - On Saturday (3/15) at home Caltech played host and finished 3rd in the 2008 SCIAC Lower Quad meet.  The University of La Verne, Pomona-Pitzer Colleges, Whittier College and SOKA University competed.  Caltech junior Zack Higbee competed in six events and led the Beaver men in points scored on the day. Zack ran the 110hh, 4x100, 4x400, High Jump, Javelin and Pole Vault.  Senior Matt Kiesz took 1st place in the 800m and 1500m with times of 2:02.23 and 4:00.76 respectively. He also ran on the victorious 4x400m relay team.  The Beaver men's 4x100m relay teams took 1st and 2nd respectively with times of 44.32 and 45.38.

On the women's side, seniors Elette Boyle and Rene Davis led the way competing in seven events each.  Boyle won the Pole Vault and tied her own school record in the High Jump, while Davis had a career best in the High Jump with a jump of 4'10".   Davis also placed 2nd in the Long Jump. Junior Tencia Lee placed 3rd in the 100m with a season best of 14.03 and took 2nd in the 200m with a season best of 29.10.  Lee also ran as part of both relay teams.  Freshman Stephanie Wuerth placed 2nd in the 1500m with a time of 5:21.40 while the 4x400 teams took 1st and 2nd with times of 4:39.36 and 4:39.66 respectively.

Final exam and spring break offer a brief hiatus for track and field, while a few student-athletes will compete at Cal State Northridge on March 20 and 21 and the Cal/Nevada State meet in Fresno on March 28 and 29.  The full teams will return to action on April 5th at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational.
