M/W Track & Field at SCIAC Invitational

Saturday, March 1st - The Caltech men's and women's track and field teams spent a wet day at Pomona-Pitzer Colleges competing in the 2008 SCIAC Invitational. Freshman,  

The women had a big day with freshman, Becky Scholz finishing 5th in the women's 100m placing the rookie in the #3 spot on the all-time top ten with a time of 13.45. Freshman, Suzanna Piatt finished 6th in the women's 400m with a time of 67.32. While sophomore, Masha Belyi once again bettered her time in the 3000m with a time of 12:53.03 moving her closer to the #9 spot of 12:24.  Freshman, Jenny Xiong moved onto the all-time top ten list in the #7 spot in the 100mHH with a time of 20.36 and senior, Elette Boyle finished 2nd in the HJ with a jump of 4'9", also placing 8th in the pole vault with a season best of 8' - 6 1/4"

For the men, junior Seth Hendrickson had a career best of 11.63 in the 100m which placed him 11th out of 36 sprinters on the day. Freshman, Alex Lapides finished 2nd in the 400m with a time of 51.67 (Alex finished just behind the 2007 conference champion from CMS, Ryan Martin).  Freshman, Anton Bongio- Karrman had the first place victory of the day in the 1500m running a 4:12.85 ahead of 2nd by just under 3 seconds.  In the 110mHH Caltech took 3rd and 4th, Zack Higbee was 3rd with a 16.32 and Ray Huber was 4th at 16.44. 

The 4X100 both the "A" and "B" teams did outstanding, the "A" team finished 2nd with a time of 44.39.  Team "A" was made up of Alex Lapides, Yezdan Badrakhan, Ray Huber, and Seth Hendrickson.  The "B" team finished 6th with a time of 46.20 and that group was Nnoduka Eruchaln, Alan Pezeshki, Zack Higbee, and Chris Wong.

The men also had personal records for Tom Rose in the shot-put 30' - 11" and in the javelin Tom had a PR of 111' - 06" which is just 2 inches short of the #10 spot on the all-time top ten.
