PASADENA, CA – In their first of three home meets this season the Caltech swimming and diving team competed against Whittier.
On both the men's and women's side the Beavers brought home a handful of top three individual finishes in the SCIAC dual meet.
"We are getting better every day," said first-year head coach Jack Leavitt. "If we continue to work hard, we are going to see some really good results."
During the men's meet Ben Grabowski was the top scorer on the diving board by nudging out team mate Alex Place in both the one- and three-meter events. Grabowski's score of 189.90 was just better than Place's tally of 183.65. In the three-meter event the junior scored 191.15 points which was a tad better than the 186.5 points Place scored.
Kevin Yu won the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:02.28. The sophomore competed well in the 200-yard breastroke as he finished second by touching the wall in 2:28.95.
Patric Eck had two solid individual swims in the 100- and 200-yard freestyle. The sophomore placed third in the 200-freestyle event with a time of 1:54.57. In the 100-yard freestyle he was out touched for first place by just .08 seconds as Eck completed the race in 50.60.
Jacqueline Masehi-Lano won the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:15.68 which was over 12 seconds faster than the runner-up. The junior also competed in the 200-yard freestyle where she finished third (2:09.48).
Kalyn Chang produced a third-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle race with a time of 27.83.
