Beavers Finish Busy Stretch With Victories

PASADENA, Calif. – The Beavers swimming/diving team finished a busy three-day stretch with a tri-meet against Mills College and St. Joseph (NY) on Monday. With only the women swimming in competition, Caltech posted a pair of victories.

Caltech placed first in all but one of the events competed in knocking off Mills 173-52 and St. Joseph (NY) 179-48. Mills posted a 101-83 win over St. Joseph (NY).

Misha Raffie started the string of wins for the Beavers by placing first in the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 13:21.47. Katja Luxem and Hanna Dodd placed second and third respectively to make it a clean sweep of the team points in the event for Caltech. The momentum continued in the next event for the Beavers as first-year Marqaux Lopez won the 200 yard freestyle in 2:13.42.

Jacqueline Masehi-Lano posted three individual wins on the day starting with the 50 yard freestyle (25.54) in the day's fifth event. The first-year also recorded a first-place time in the 100 yard freestyle (56.47). She rounded out her perfect day by winning the 100 yard backstroke in 1:05.26.

Janis Intoy posted a pair of first place finishes as the senior won the 100 yard breaststroke and 200 yard individual medley. Her after started with a time of 2:37.66 in the individual medley race before winning the breaststroke event by clocking a time of 1:21.52.

Fellow senior Caitlin Regan also won two events. Regan first win came in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 1:07.98. The co-captain followed that effort with a time of 6:07.68 to win the 500 yard freestyle.

The meet concluded with the team of Emily Shih, Dodd, Karen Dowling and Lopez winning the 200 yard freestyle relay in 1:58.39.

Timi Kosztin won the three-meter (169.40) and one-meter diving (169.90) competitions by narrowly edging out teammate Jessica Swallow.

NOTE – Although there was no official men's meet, the Caltech men's team swam timed events that also show on the results sheet.
