CLAREMONT, Calif. – During the two-day SCIAC diving preliminaries, the Caltech diving squad qualified three divers for the season ending SCIAC championships next week.
The final round will be held at Belmont Plaza in Long Beach, Calif.
Peggy Allen, Jessica Swallow, and Erin Zampaglione were looking to qualify for the conference. All three divers had highlights from their efforts.
Erin Zampaglionehad one of her best dives of the season when she performed a 2.5 somersault en route to placing 13th. Jessica Swallow finished 10th while executing a personal best inward somersault half twist during the competition.
Peggy Allen qualified for the championships as she placed eighth overall. Last season the senior placed ninth at the season ending event.
The competition started with 20 divers with the top eight qualifying for the final round.
Wade Hann-Carutaers had a great effort but placed just outside the qualifiers with a ninth placed finish.
Justin Johnson had a solid performance and eased into a third place finish to reach the finals.
Allen ended the competition with a ninth placed finish; just 1.4 points out of the eighth spot and a qualifying spot at the SCIAC Championships.
Zampaglione took home a 10th place finish while Stacy Levine (13th) and Swallow (15th) also competed for the Beavers.
Both Johnson and Hann-Carutaers qualified for the championships. After their 11 dives, Johnson finished in third place while Hann-Carutaers is in fifth.
