PASADENA (Aug. 21, 2018) – The 33rd-ranked Caltech men's tennis team has released its schedule for the 2019 season, which will include 12 home matches and six road matches in addition to the 119th annual Ojai Valley Tournament in late April of next year. The men are set to take on another loaded schedule with seven nationally-ranked programs outside the SCIAC set to make the trip to Pasadena and with the SCIAC in for another strong collective season, the Beavers will look to improve upon last year's third-place regular season finish in addition to their national ranking.
The Beavers will open the season with three days at the ITA Oracle Cup in Claremont, Calif. beginning on Friday, Sept. 28 and extending through the weekend. Following a layoff extending into February, Caltech will travel to Azusa Pacific University on Saturday, Feb. 2 for a 2 p.m. exhibition. The men's team will begin the regular season with a two-match February, beginning on Sunday the 10th against No. 31 University of California Santa Cruz. Eight days later, Caltech will play host to No. 21 Brandeis University.
Caltech will begin the month of March with a 3 p.m. home match against Rhodes college on Monday, Mar. 4 before embarking on what has become an annual trip to Indian Wells to face Vassar College on neutral soil on Mar. 10. The Beavers will then begin a seven-match homestand starting with 19th-ranked Swarthmore College on Monday, Mar. 11 at 3 p.m., followed by No. 29 Skidmore College just two days later. The Beavers will then host No. 22 Tufts University on Saturday, Mar. 16, followed by No. 36 Hobart College the next day and No. 13 Whitman College the following Saturday. Caltech hosts Colby College, the former school of new Head Coach Jason Cohen on Tuesday, Mar. 26 at 2 p.m. before ending the homestand with No. 32 George Fox the next day at 10 a.m. The Beavers will close the month on Saturday, Mar. 30 when they face their first SCIAC challenge of the season at the University of Redlands.
April will feature six more regular season matches, all of which will come against SCIAC teams. Caltech will travel to California Lutheran University on Friday, Apr. 5 before hosting Occidental College the next day. The Beavers go on to face No. 12 Pomona-Pitzer Colleges in a rematch of last year's conference semifinal on Friday, Mar. 12 at 3 p.m. Caltech will then embark on its final two road matches of the year, first on Saturday, Apr. 13 at Chapman University, followed by defending SCIAC champion No. 6 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges on Friday, Mar. 19 at 3 p.m. The men's tennis team will close the 2019 season at home against Whittier College in the annual Orange Out/Senior Day match. Cohen and the Beavers return to Ventura for the 119th Annual Ojai Valley Tournament from Thursday, Apr. 25-Sunday, Apr. 28 before the SCIAC Championships the following weekend, hosted by the conference's top two seeds upon the season's completion.
