Lebby Gets Beavers Record; Caltech Falls to Nationally Ranked Foes

THOUSAND OAKS, CA – While the Beavers didn't claim a team win as they faced two nationally ranked foes, a school record did fall at the SCIAC Championships on Friday.

Caltech concludes the season looking to knock off Occidental on Saturday. The teams have already a split a pair of matches this season.

CMS 5, Caltech 1 (Results)

The doubles tandem of Devashish Joshi and Luka Mernik posted a hard fought 8-6 win at the third slot for the Beavers team point. The Stags won the other two doubles matches

ClaremontMuddScripps, who came into the match as the nation's top ranked team, posted straight set wins at the No. 1, No. 4 and No. 6 singles matches to claim the team match.

Redlands 7, Caltech 2 (Results)

While Caltech didn't come out top against the country's 19th ranked team, Morgan Lebby made history for Caltech.

Lebby won for the 11th time this season with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Teddy Jones at the No. 4 singles match. He eclipses John Howard's record for most wins in a single season. Howard set the record with 10 in 2003 and then again in 2004.

In addition to his singles win, Lebby teamed with Rushikesh Joshi to win a hard fought 9-8 decision at the second doubles spot.

The Bulldogs won the remaining matches.
