Beaver Siblings Help to Out-Fox Visiting Bruins

Mar 22, 2008

Pasadena, CA - Play began against visiting George Fox University (OR) with singles matches and Caltech jumped out to a 4-1 lead, with wins at the #1, 2, 3 & 6 positions.  The men of Tech needed only a win at #4 to clinch their first victory of the season.  Lu Chen playing at #4, fought back to take the match to a 3rd set.  In the 3rd they traded games for the entire set but at 6-5 30-40 Lu Chen had the match win on his strings but failed to convert as his backhand passing shot clipped the tape. Lu eventually fell 7-1 in the tiebreak taking the teams into doubles play to decide the match.  With the score 4-2 Caltech needed just 1 win for the victory.

The first time pairing of the Brothers Narsimhan (Vivek and Karthik) proved to be a sound move by Coach Gamble.  The siblings got off to a fast start and found themselves up 3-0 due to aggressive poaching and solid serving by both players.  The Narsimhan's eventually won the match 8-5 giving Caltech its first win of the season.  As an added bonus, the #2 doubles team of Wesley Yu and Lu Chen came back to win after being down 6-2 to eventually win 8-3.

"The men have been working hard all year and I'm very impressed with the way they are playing, out guys deserved this win" commented Coach Gamble.
