CLAREMONT, Calif. (Feb. 3, 2018) – Junior Adam Dai (Santa Barbara, Calif. / Dos Pueblos) put forth one of his best days in a Caltech cap Saturday morning at Pomona-Pitzer Colleges. The Beavers met the Sagehens and California Lutheran University in their final double-dual meet of the season.
Dai set a new personal-best in the 400 IM when he completed the race in 4:40.52. Teammate Alex Janosi (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Dexter) competed in the same race but also competed in the 200 free where he set a new personal best in the 200 free (1:47.74) en route to a sixth-place finish in a 13-man field spanning multiple heats. Meanwhile, the 200 medley relay team consisting of Janosi, sophomore Thomas Gallup (Houston, Texas / Phillips Exeter Academy), junior Henry Steiner (Petaluma, Calif. / Casa Grande) and junior Dylan Lu (Kingwood, Texas / Kingwood) took third-place in the corresponding event, one of the first of the day. A third personal best fell for the Beavers when freshman Jethin Gowda (Orange, Conn. / Amity Regional) set a new best time in the 50 free (26.18).
Head Coach Paul Hughes and the Beavers will have one more tune-up on Saturday, Feb. 10 before they compete at the SCIAC Championships later in the month. Caltech will host Chapman University at 10 a.m.
