PASADENA (Oct. 10, 2018) – The Caltech men's soccer team carried over some of the offensive explosiveness from Monday's Providence Christian College tilt into Wednesday's meeting with California Lutheran University, outshooting the Kingsmen, 15-12.
Caltech used sound ball movement in the middle of the field to generate scoring chances. Two of the team's best chances came at the end of the first half when senior forward Nikhil Gupta (Herndon, Va. / Thomas Jefferson Science and Technology) put a shot on goal to force a corner kick, then turned that opportunity into a header that sailed just above the crossbar as time expired. The Beavers also outpaced the Kingsmen with a shots-on-goal differential of 7-5. Five different Beavers put one shot-on-goal, a first on the season, though sophomore forward Rohan Mirchandani (Pleasanton, Calif. / Foothill) managed to put two on-net.
Sophomore goalkeeper Joe Como (Glen Cove, N.Y. / Friends Acad.) came up big when his team needed him most, as the New York-native turned away two breakaway opportunities for the Kingsmen. Como finished the game with three saves against just five Cal Lutheran shots-on-goal.
Head Coach Phil Murray and the Beavers will be back at North Field on Saturday, Oct. 13 when they host the University of St. Katherine at 4 p.m.
