Beavers Edged by Occidental in SCIAC Men's Soccer Debut

EAGLE ROCK, Calif. (Sept. 9, 2017) – Caltech Men's Soccer, behind freshman keeper Joe Como (Glen Cove, N.Y. / Friends Acad.) held Occidental College to just one goal in Saturday's SCIAC road opener.

Como stopped 13 of 14 Occidental shots on net and kept the Beavers competitive late in the game. The decisive goal did not come until a penalty kick in the 82nd minute, a testament to the Caltech defensive workrate. Como played the full 90 minutes for the Beavers.

Sophomore Kevin Yu (Park Ridge, N.J. / Park Ridge) accounted for both of the Beavers' shots on goal while freshman defender JD Walker (Grand Blanc, Mich. / Grand Blanc) also registered a shot. Yu leads the Beavers with eight shots on goal this season.

Head Coach Phil Murray and the Beavers will look to notch their first SCIAC victory of 2017 when they head to Pomona-Pitzer Colleges for a 3 p.m. game on Wednesday, Sept. 13.
