CLAREMONT, CA -- Caltech gave up four first half goals and couldn't recover as the Pomona-Pitzer men's soccer team posted a 4-0 win on Saturday afternoon.
The SCIAC match-up marked the end of tough stretch of games in which the Beavers played eight games during a 19-day period.
Pomona-Pitzer got on the board with a goal in the 16th minute when Nathan Skekita bent in a free kick. A few moments later, in the 24th minute, Mark Raftrey gave the home squad a 2-0 lead when he found the top right corner of the goal off a pass from Shekita.
Caltech had a chance at the midway point of the first half but his shot from just outside of 18 yards was tipped away by the Sagehens goalie.
The Sagehens padded their lead with goals less than 70 seconds apart. In the 40th minute Erik Munzer beat Beaver goalie Wesley Swank with a header from a Shekita feed. Shekita wrapped up his first half contributions with a goal in the 41st minute with a blast from just inside 30 yards.
Hunter Sceats blasted a ball from just inside the box but his open look shot went high right before the halftime buzzer.
During the final 45 minutes of action the Sagehens held Caltech to just one shot on goal while taking six of their own in controlling the play and taking the win.
Caltech will take a week off before hosting the University of Redlands on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
