Aliso Viejo, CA—The Caltech soccer team dropped a 4-0 decision at SOKA to start the 2012 season on Sunday afternoon.
Edgar Cruz put the first goal on the board in the 19th minute when he headed in a cross from Tanner Chadwell. Cruz put his second tally on the board 15 minutes later when he scored off a corner kick as the home squad took a 2-0 lead into the locker room.
SOKA continued to press to start the second half and put their third goal of the game on the board in the 57th minute on a Tomo Tanaka goal. The final goal of the contest came in the final minutes of the game when Akira Takahata found the back of the net.
The Beavers starting line-up featured three first-years (Alec Sands, Adam Ball, Paolo Bertolotti) while fellow first-years Thomas Arnold and Valentin Skoutnev also played in their first collegiate contest.
Caltech takes an extended break until their home opener on Sept. 10 against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at 4:00 p.m.
